Shark Guardian UK Shark Fin Ban Campaign

Shark Guardian proposed a full ban of the shark fin trade in all of Europe and have successfully exceeded the target of 1,000,000 votes in the European Citizens' Initiative!

Why target the EU for a Shark Fin Ban?

Stopping the shark fin trade from Europe would have a significant impact on the global shark fin trade that is rsponsibile for killing over 100 million sharks each year. Once combined, data shows the EU exports ONE THIRD of the world's shark fin to Asia. Spain being the world's 3rd largest exporter along with France (13th) and Portugal (14th).

In 2021 Shark Guardian led a campaign that successfully ended the shark fin trade in the UK. During 2021 and 2022 Shark Guardian has been a partner of the StopFinningEU campaign alongside many other NGOs and organisations. These two emmense forces, together have achieved momumental sucess in education and awareness that has the to potential to save millions of sharks each year from the shark fishing / finning industry.
