11/02/2022Bull Sharks Sighting Near Pattaya Thailand
Scuba divers today were treated to some very special guests whilst scuba diving Pattaya at the local Samae San Island Shipwreck, The Hardeep. It was the first dive of the morning and I was the first one down the line, I noticed something big, I looked back up the line to see if my buddy had spotted it and when I turned around, there was a huge Shark swimming up the line directly towards us! I couldnt believe my eyes!

Bull Sharks in Thai Waters
Bull Sharks are fairly common in the Gulf of Thailand waters however diving with Sharks this size is unusualy and they are rarely seen by scuba divers, You would think larger sharks usually prefer to stay in deeper water but upon some research it would appear they may prefer shallower waters, which explains the sighting more common to rivers and esturies. In total 4-5 Bull Sharks were spotted at a depth around 28m deep. The Sharks were approx 2-3m in length and swam around the divers for quite some time. The dive teams enjoyed the dive so much they decided to try their luck again and go back to the shipwreck in hopes of another sighting after lunch. The conditions had dropped with currents and lower viz, but they got lucky! The Bull Sharks Greeted them again, giving all the divers the oppotunity to witness these magnificent creatures personally.
Shark Identification
We sent the Photos off to our Friends and Shark Experts at Shark Guardian to confirm the ID and make sure they were bullsharks and they were. At first it was thought these were Black tip reef sharks as these Sharks are also seen at the Hardeep Ship wreck from time to time but once the photos were capautred and inspected it was clear from the lack of black tip on the dorsel fin and the blunt and short snout we had ourselves some Bull Sharks! What an amazing find and expereince. We have long loved scuba diving in Samae San and the Hardeep Shipwreck.
Thankyou again to Scuba Adventures For the Photos and Videos Hopefully tomorrow we will get some more sightings!
